Studio Sanges — Analogue Photography

The Adria is proud to present a new collaboration with Studio Sanges, showcasing a curated selection of analogue photographic works throughout the Games Room, Lounge, Parlour and Signature Suites.

Sanges is an Italian-born photographer whose work explores atmosphere, memory and the cinematic tension between stillness and narrative. Working exclusively with traditional film processes, his photographs are created slowly and intentionally, then printed by hand using darkroom techniques including silver gelatin and C-type colour printing.

Raised in Rome, Sanges developed a visual language shaped by European cinema, theatre and classical portraiture. His images are recognised for their painterly light, psychological depth and carefully constructed sense of space — qualities that resonate strongly within The Adria’s intimate interiors.

His work has been exhibited internationally, including presentations at the Dimbola Museum alongside Lee Miller, and has received coverage from BBC Arts and major editorial platforms. Works by Sanges are held in permanent collections such as the Center for Creative Photography in Arizona and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, as well as in private collections across Europe and the United States.

Alongside still life and staged cinematic compositions, Sanges is the creator of One Step Closer — an ongoing analogue portrait series documenting cultural figures who have shaped contemporary artistic life. Sitters include Dame Judi Dench, Jeremy Irons, Brian Cox, Elizabeth McGovern, Sir Bryn Terfel, Sir Bob Geldof, Ron Carter, Simon Callow and Gyles Brandreth, among others.

Across all bodies of work, Sanges remains committed to analogue craft, producing photographs as enduring physical objects rather than digital images. Each print is created in a small edition using traditional darkroom methods, reinforcing the value of time, process and permanence.
